2009: Three igus® initiatives for a boost

dear partners and friends of igus®,

The good thing about bad times is reflecting on a simple question: What gives you the most? For this purpose we are driving through three initiatives to provide our customers with what particularly helps at the moment: firstly, new, innovative products, with which you can technically optimize your machines and reduce costs at the same time. Secondly, delivering quickly from stock. Thirdly, tools that give you even more convenience and help you to reduce process costs.

Initiative 1

Delivery from stock
in 24h or today

First let me address the "delivering from stock" initiative. The extension by around 60 percent to our lean factory at the Cologne headquarters is now finished and is already being used. We can work even more streamlined, even quicker and save costs at the same time. 80,000 products are available for you from stock just-in-time - in 24 hours or on the same day, from a quantity of one and without minimum quantity surcharges. That is indispensable especially in current times. Everyone is looking after their liquidity and we are helping with that.

About igus®

The extension by around 60 percent (to the right of the dotted line) to our lean igus® factory in Cologne is now finished and been put into operation. We supply 80,000 products from stock in 24 hours or on the same day, from a quantity of one and without minimum quantity surcharges.

and all departments closely examined

igus® is now producing, testing and researching in Cologne on a floor area covering 36,000 m2. The factory area has been extended to 29,000 m2, added to which are 7,000 m2 of surrounding buildings for additional fabrication, technical training and a large logistics center. In the course of the factory extension, together with consistent lean management we have closely examined all departments: from marketing and administration to research and development, tool design and production throught to warehousing and distribution.

Improve technology
and reduce costs at the same time

The second igus® initiative is innovative new products. Now is the best time to technically improve machinery and reduce costs at the same time. Precisely this combination is urgently needed. That is why we have introduced over 80 new product features this year, more than ever before. Everything here revolves around our motto plastics for longer life®. Around innovations based on tribo-optimised, high performance plastics in the areas of energy supply systems, special cables, inductive energy transmission as well as plain bearings, linear plain bearings, spherical and ball bearings.

Initiative 3

Finally, as its third initiative, igus® has also invested in an abundance of new internet tools. That allows you to save process costs and enjoy even more convenience. They include a new service life calculation for energy chains, a service life calculation for "DryLin®" linear systems including 3D CAD plus new or significantly improved configurators and product finders. Other new tools are a display of delivery times in the online catalogs, customer-specific online catalogs and trade pages with fast search function according to applications and matching products.
